Training takes place right here in our own thriving organic food garden … giving trainees the inspiration and belief that food security is within their reach. They learn everything they need to successfully grow their own food at home – from soil preparation and building a compost pile, to propagating seedlings, pest control and crop rotation.
And once they’ve completed the course, they go home with a starter kit of seeds – pumpkin, spinach, beans, carrots, beetroot green peppers and more. Fast-growing veggies like spinach produce a bountiful harvest is just a few weeks. And, by selling surplus to neighbours, a successful food gardener can earn enough to buy other food staples – bread, milk, sugar and even a little meat.
