Freedom isn’t just about independence—it’s about opportunity.

For many unemployed South Africans, the chance to say, “I am working” is a dream come true … the difference between despair and hope for a brighter future.

At Siyabonga Africa, we believe in breaking the cycle of poverty through employment. But with South Africa’s unemployment rate projected to reach 33.2% in 2025, and youth unemployment at crisis levels, too many people remain trapped without the means to provide for themselves and their families.

That’s why we created Siyasebenza (‘We are working’), a programme that equips unemployed people with skills training, workplace readiness, and help in securing employment. We’ve already helped 183 young people on their path out of poverty. But our work is far from done. With your help this year, we aim to reach another 300, helping them find jobs, pursue further studies, or launch small businesses.

Junior’s story proves that Siyasebenza has the power to make a difference. Junior spent 20 hours volunteering in our vegetable garden and helping with maintenance around our property. After completing his welding training, he enrolled in our Job Readiness Programme. Then, filled with newfound confidence, he went out and knocked on doors until he landed a job. His determination turned his training into a stepping stone towards a better future.
