Use your loaf – join the movement!
Helping to build a better South Africa doesn’t have to mean investing billions in infrastructure or running for president. Everyone can do something to help! Because, even small, consistent actions have the power to get things moving in the right direction.
If you live on the East Rand, you can do something as simple as supporting Siyabonga Africa’s Bread & Butter Bakery in Brakpan. Our flagship bakery is doing more than just selling bread and cakes. It’s changing lives.
Let me tell you about just one of them.
Like many young South Africans, Millie Bongiwe Shabangu faced the challenge of needing in-service training to earn her N6 diploma in Hospitality & Catering Services. But in order to get a job you need experience. And in order to gain experience, you need a job!
Despite her best efforts, Millie could not secure a position.
So she decided to volunteer at Siyabonga Africa
in order to gain the practical experience she needed.Through sheer determination and hard work,
she turned volunteer work into a career.
She helped out with office administration, baking training and community outreach. And when the opportunity came to enrol in our baking course, she grabbed it with both hands.
Today, Millie uses her skills to create delicious baked goods for a steady stream of happy customers at our Bread & Butter Bakery . Plans for the future include starting her own business, and publishing a recipe book.
Millie’s journey is a shining example of the
opportunities Siyabonga Africa provides.
Through our Siyasebenza Programme, we equip unemployed youth with job-ready skills, enabling people like Millie to turn their passion into professions. Whether through employment or entrepreneurship, our programmes help many young South Africans find a pathway out of poverty.
But Bread & Butter Bakery is not just a place to get fresh bread. Or even just a stepping stone to start someone like Millie on the road to success. ‘Giving back’ is at the heart of the bakery’s mission. That’s why we regularly donate bread to help local organisations fight hunger in our community.
Whether you’re looking for the best locally baked bread
or want to support a social enterprise with impact,
Bread & Butter Bakery is the place to come!
Every loaf sold helps create jobs,
develop skills and uplift the community.
