Who said doing good and uplifting others couldn’t be fun? The Mandela Day Market at Siyabonga Africa on 18 July is the perfect opportunity to support our aspiring entrepreneurs and students, who’ll be showcasing their businesses and selling their products, ranging from unique fashion items to delectable eats and much, much more.
Like Madiba, we believe in overcoming challenges and transforming lives. And with your support we can make a lasting impact this Mandela Day. All you have to do is bring along a non-perishable food item to gain ‘free’ entrance to the market.
Want to do more than just browse the stalls? Roll up your sleeves and help out on the day with table hire and set up, collecting food donations at the entrance, or showing off your own talents in the entertainment field.
Not able to attend on the day? You can still get involved by organising a fundraiser at your office, club or church group. Here are some ideas to get your started:
- ask everyone to donate a non-perishable food item towards our student feeding programme;
- collect cash towards our skills and enterprise development programmes;
- encourage everyone to sign up for a MySchool card, with Siyabonga Africa as the beneficiary;
- hold a cake sale;
- put together a hamper of goodies (or get them donated) and hold an office raffle;
- get management and staff involved in a matching gift drive – the company agrees to donate a certain sum provided the staff collectively ‘match’ it with their own donations;
- organise a fun run after work and ‘charge’ an entry fee of non-perishable foodstuffs;
- get permission to hold a ‘casual’ dress day at the office, in return for an entrance fee;
- hold a lunch-time or evening quiz and donate the proceeds to Siyabonga Africa.
